Basic Furniture Making

Learn tool safety, shed safety and to work with wood and create your own projects in this introduction to the basic principles and practical skills of carpentry.

The group aims to:

  • Identify the safety equipment that a carpenter should wear to protect his eyes, hands, and feet.
  • Workshop Safety, Fire Precautions and Cleaning
  • Types of Wood
  • Identification of Basic Hand Tools
  • Safe and Correct Use of Basic Hand Tools
  • Identification of a range of Power Tools and how they are used
  • Safe and Correct use of Power Tools
  • Identify the steps involved in sanding a surface by hand and machine sander
  • Construction of wood joints and their purpose
  • Identify when to use different joints
  • Occupational Health and Safety in a workplace

Duration:Each Term - 1 day per week Monday to Friday
Session Times:Morning - 9.30am to 12.30pm
Afternoon - 1.00pm to 4.00pm
Cost:$70 (funding eligible)
$250 (full fee)
